Tips for Choosing Patio Furniture
Many different kinds of patio furniture are available for your choice that suits your home. The right outdoor furniture can make your outdoor area an inviting area for relaxing, gathering and even dining. Furniture designed for outdoor living comes in a wide variety of styles, materials and price ranges. When shopping for your patio, there are several things you should consider. Is your patio covered or open? How many people do you think will need seating on your patio? Do you entertain outdoors a little or a lot? All of these questions can help you select the ideal furniture.
Popular materials for outdoor furniture include plastic, aluminum, wrought iron, wood and wicker. Plastic is usually going to be the least expensive furniture choice. You can find plastic tables and chairs in a variety of sizes and colors. The good thing about plastic is that it's cheap and can stand up to the elements. The bad thing is that it isn't the most durable or attractive material. Even though it doesn't rust it can warp and crack over time. Weatherproof metal furniture may be a better choice. It is a bit more costly, but usually not extravagant. Most people prefer the look of metal over plastic, plus, it may last longer and hold up better over time.
Wrought iron is going to be one of the most expensive types of outdoor furniture. There are advantages and disadvantages to this material. Although wrought iron may come with some form of weatherproofing it may need maintenance over the years to help discourage, remove or conceal any rust or discoloration. It is the heaviest and sturdiest outdoor furniture, and can last for years when cared for properly. Many people like its sophisticated appearance. Wicker is another popular choice because it is breezy and light. However, it is necessary to keep wicker safe from the elements so it is not the best choice for an unprotected outdoor area. Weatherproof wood can work for both covered and uncovered areas. Wood offers a distinctive, rustic look that goes well in an outdoor environment.
No matter what kind of patio furniture you ultimately choose, follow the manufacturer's instructions for care and maintenance to ensure it lasts for years to come. Avoiding harsh cleansers when cleaning and covering your furniture to protect against the elements when necessary are two of the best things you can do to keep your outdoor furniture in good condition. If your outdoor furniture has seat cushions, they should be removed and placed in a dry location before the furniture itself is covered to keep them in ideal condition as well.
